I bought one of the items that was being sold for cheaper money but had torn packaging. The item inside was meant to be entirely unharmed, but the description claimed that just the packaging was damaged. Unfortunately, it was a deception. It's not broken so badly that I couldn't fix it, but if I weren't handy and this hadn't been a birthday present for my daughter, I would have had to send it back. The interior shelves are made of some kind of foam that is then covered in cheap faux wood veneer, as one damaged shelf revealed. It wasn't difficult to stable and glue that back together. It didn't require much assembly for me because I mounted it to the back of a door.
